Product: Medical Claims Analysis Toolkit

1. Overview

When I worked at a hedge fund, our team was tasked with building analytical tools to analyze medical claims data. Portfolio managers would then take the tools and leverage them to make data-driven investment decisions.

2. User Needs Finding

I conducted multiple needs focused interviews with senior executives at the fund; these were structured sit-down meetings where we understood which data sets & market signals required the most visibility. We identified where data-driven software tools could be the most useful.

3. Product Development

I led a 4-person team of two data engineers, two data specialists, and we collaborated with 8 customer teams to bring our vision to fruition.

I wrote detailed product specifications based on these conversations and worked with the development team to get the product executed. I wrote up detailed test scenarios and worked with a testing team to make sure every single bug was found.

4. Feedback Loop

After we released the product, we met with every customer team to solicit feedback, train the teams, and implement the solution.

After the tool was implemented, we leveraged detailed in-product analytics to see how customers were using it and how frequently. In addition, we conducted bi-monthly feedback sessions face-to-face.

5. Metrics & Success

Measured success of the product based on individual stock performance and usage rate. Both of these metrics saw an improvement.

Built an investment tool for MedTech Stocks that leveraged data from hospitals by looking at their purchasing activity, For example, examing how many beds and from which company did a hospital buy. This tool was the first of its kind on Wall Street.

2. User Needs Finding

Met with multiple teams to identify the best place our data modeling skills could provide visibility.  Set deadlines and priorities across multiple customer teams to deliver products in a timely manner.

3. Product Development

Wrote product specifications, identified ways to fix shortcomings of the data, and spent an extensive period of time developing training to educate users on the strengths and weaknesses of the data models.

The final product was a data visualization platform that allowed users to get a view of a stock based on our proprietary dataset.

4. Feedback Loop

After every product release, met with teams to understand areas of improvement and enhancements.

5. Metrics & Success

Measured success of the product based on individual stock performance and read rate.

Both stock performance and read rates increased twofold year-over-year, which led to product expansion.

Product: Prepaid Digital Debit Card

1. Overview

About 25% of individuals in the United States are either underbanked or unbanked and our product was designed to make banking easy for this group. I led the product marketing and product strategy for Brink's Prepaid card which included a combination of D2C and B2B marketing and product enhancements to increase product reach.

I sat in on 20+ sales calls and listened to 30+ customer service calls to understand what our customers were struggling with. Based on these conversations, I came up with a list of detailed product recommendations to increase reach and usage.

3. Product Development

Vaccine cards are a pain to manage, Covid or not. After struggling with vaccine cards, I worked with my best friend to create a portal that helps individuals to have all vaccine information in the same place.

2. User Needs Finding

I conducted 20+ user interviews with doctors, nurses, and patients. Doctors told us that they would run blood tests on individuals who've either lost their card or don't remember if they have been vaccinated against something.

Product: HomeKitch - Platform for homebakers and local artisans

1. Overview

During the first lockdown, I noticed one of my favorite aunts started a home bakery. Soon there was an emergence of home bakers that were mostly women and I really wanted to help out. That led to the HomeKitch - a platform that simplifies marketing and payments.

2. User Needs Finding

Every week I would go to the farmers market to interview customers and vendors to identify the ideal target market for people like my aunt. I built a landing page and created Facebook ads to get feedback from both customers and vendors. I learned that the right target group for this platform would be young professionals and people with specific diets.

We spent over `$100+ on Facebook ads in the Austin market area but our conversation rate was very low. Further, the biggest problem was the expenses associated with delivery. I contacted a number of local cafes to see if we could do batch delivery for home-cooked food to reduced the cost. We didn't get good feedback and decided to drop it.
